Caption: Ask Sadie. Dear Sadie, Were you ever young? If so, what was it like for you? -Grandma Pat. *(Actual reader letter) Ask Sadie at rudy@rudypark.com. Awful and typical. I experienced wild hormone swings, had crazy flings with key members of the Roosevelt administration, indirectly caused two world wars and, in a drunken rage, destroyed evidence of alien landings in Roswell. The usual stuff. Getting old is worse. I don't want to hear about it. (This cartoon was originally published on 2014-07-10)

Caption: What was Rudy like as a child, Mort? He was a very adventurous young man. Every time I visited, he would tell me about his exploits. About how he climbed mountains with some other child named Q-Bert … He's tell me about how he'd spend hours and hours collecting coins with his friends Mario and Luigi ... Who just put the Joker back in Arkham Asylum? This guy!! I don't know what that means, but it sounds very strenuous.

Caption: Let me tell you a story: The year was 1988. I was living in Detroit at the time. A young man named Matt Bennett spilled a drop of coffee on my shoe. He apologized profusely. I said, That's ok, dear, and we got to chatting. Turned out he was organizing a campaign stop for Michael Dukakis. So I told him You know what would make be vote for your boss? Show us he's tough. Maybe put him in a tank, and put a huge helmet on him. Show me he's an alpha male. I said I was sorry for spilling your tea. I will ruin you.

Caption: Boss, I have a suggestion for you that win-win. It'll save you thousands of dollars in health insurance premiums. Listening … If you pay to have me cryogenically frozen and then thawed every other day, I'll get to live to be 180, and you'll get an employee who's young and productive for the rest of your life. Ignoring. Don't you want to sleep on it?

Caption: Triple espresso. Forget it, Uncle Mort. Let's face facts: You're not as young as you used to me. Too much caffeine can literally kill you. Poppycock! Do you know who you're talking to? When we stormed across Europe under Patton, my tank battalion got stuck in the mud during a torrential downpour. Arty Lang switched my canteen full of rainwater with one full of tank gas. So I replaced his tank's timing belt with tree bark and dental floss. That big galoot and I were always pranking each other like that. It was different times. Don't judge. What were we talking about, again? You were ordering the gentle flower chamomile tea.

Caption: Today on the Ask Sadie Show, we'll be addressing one single topic: Kevin Spacey. Specifically, we'll talk about that delightful television drama he stars in alongside one of my favorite actresses. Also, my tv has been at the repairman's shop for a couple weeks, so maybe you nice callers can fill me in on any big news stories I may have missed. Anyhow, I once met that nice young Mr. Spacey. He gave me a signed DVD of "American Beauty." I don't have a DVD machine, but I framed it because the cover is so lovely with all those roses ...

Caption: The Ask Sadie Show. Actual answers to actual reader questions. Dear Sadie, When you were a teenager, did your parents tell you you were too young to date? How did you deal with that? - Frustrated with Dad. Never! In my day, there were no "teen-agers." You were either big enough to run the machinery, or small enough to be used as a pipe-cleaner in the machinery.

Caption: Ask Sadie. Our resident surly lass answers actual reader questions sent to rudy@rudypark.com. Dear Sadie, My husband forgot my birthday. There was no cake, no trip, no party, no nice little gift, no card, no "happy birthday" whispered in my ear … NOTHING. How do I let him know how deeply that hurt me? - Hurt in Harford. Excellent question. It reminds me of the time I hunted down a wild boar in the Serengeti in 1951. Decades earlier, when I was but a young lass, nobody remembered my birthday, or so I thought. that night, dear old Grandmother Cohen surprised me with a loaf of bread topped with a flaming licorice stick. Just as I blew out the licorice, it happened: A young wild boar came out of nowhere, darted across our shack, grabbed my loaf in its slobbery may and escaped into the dark, stormy night. I tracked that boar for twenty years across seven continents before I finally caught him. Speaking of which, it's time for my daily ham sandwich. Anyway, what were we talking about? Ask Sadie, baby!

Caption: All you young people keep whining about the country being "divided." You don't know what "divided" is. Grandmother Cohen was a general in the Union army. Her sister was a Confederate general. They didn't let women fight in the Civil War. Of course not. But as luck would have it, Great Grandmother Cohen was the best fake-beard-maker in the land. Nobody ever dared ask "Stonewall Jackson" why "he" often wore his hair in a bun. The history books always leave out the best parts.

Caption: Which vaccines did they have when you were young? You cannot get under my skin, loser. Were you vaccinated against the black plague? Not bothering me. Were you vaccinated against leprosy? I am unaffected by you. Were you vaccinated against the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs? Munch mun - When's the last time someone shoved a syrupy pancake down your pants?

Caption: The boys and I decided to get revenge on Congress by buying their web browsing histories. What "boys"? You have "boys," Mort? Of course. Every week I get together with fellow WWII and Korean War Vets, and we play poker, watch "Three Stooges" movie reels ... plot to retake government from the younger stupider generations ... There was a whole lot of stupidity in your generation's leaders too, Mort. Yes ... but our stupidity was a lot classier.

Caption: "Young Justice" got renewed for a third season! What's that? It's a cartoon about a bunch of superhero sidekicks, like Robin and Kid Flash. They start off in the shadows of the more famous heroes, but they quickly show that they're every bit as cools as the bigger, stronger heroes. I think I can tell why that show appeals to you, little buddy. Does your cup feel heavy? My cup feels heavy.

Caption: Today on the Ask Sadie Show, we'll be addressing one single topic: Donald Trump's pivot. In my day, there was no such thing as a "pivot." A "pivot" was called something else. It was called "being a two-faced snake in the grass." The only time Truman "pivoted" was when we were on the dance floor, and he heard young Dick Nixon talking trash.

Caption: I imagine at your age, you attend a lot of funerals, Sadie. Oh, yes, they're quite lovely. As a child, I attended birthday parties. As a lass, I attended sweet sixteens. As a young adult, I attended weddings. As a mature woman, I attended retirement parties. Now, in the twilight of life, I attend funerals. "Deathday" parties, if you will. And it's beautiful. Because it's all come full circle? Because for once, I don't have to buy the %$&*@ a gift.

Caption: Give me whatever and make it fast. What? What do you mean? My wife gave me ten minutes of freedom for Father's Day. And I burned through three of those just sprinting over here. We have four children and a fifth one any day now. She's tired in bed so I'm on 24/7 kid duty. I haven't left the house, taken a shower, or gone potty by myself since 2015. My ear hairs are skinny secret babies that whisper to me at night that I may be going insane. So for Father's Day, my loving wife granted me ten fleeting moments of me-time, which I choose to spend buying expensive coffee in a run-down cafe, like I used to do when I was young and single and had all the time in the world. Mom wants to know when you'll be back. Tell the short person I can't hear it for another 5 minutes and 48 seconds! Sometimes I'm glad I can't even get a date.

Caption: I'll have a "Bernie Sanders." Sorry, Uncle Mort. That's not on the menu. Of course it is. It's been a popular menu item for months! Young people rave about it! They get bumper stickers and go to massive rallies! They go online and tell everyone they should just give the drink a chance! It's the best drink available, they say! It's snazzy! It's aces! It's a real sweet patootie! And then when the time comes to actually go out and buy it, guess what happens? Those crumbs forget to bring their wallets. I'm not really sure where you went with that analogy Uncle Mort. Never mind. Just give me a chamomile tea.

Caption: What's the earliest memory you have, Armstrong? Well … I was very, very young … Everything was dark. I was in some sort of liquid and there was a flexible, hose-like thing connecting my belly button to some sort of sack that was enveloping me. I heard a woman's beautiful muffled voice singing "Row row row your boat, gently down the stream, merrily merrily merrily merrily, life is but a dream." And I decided then and there I would one day corner the boat market. Very bad man.
