Caption: Slouching Toward Sequestration. Turning and turning in the budget war mire. The court's fiscal woes are turning quite dire. To cut budget's further you'd have to be jerks. Things fall apart without lawyers and clerks. Rough justice is coming if we don't get more dough. Sequester the monster is out of control. He was created to scare us into budgets austere. The blind beast fills the land with nothin' but fear. Yes the monster and I share a political lineage of free-market zealots and GOP patronage. But so what if my lament seems a tad ironic. This sequester's a monster and the crisis is chronic! Poetic Justice. Yeats. Federal courts.

I'm employed by vegan Jainists, so anything related to meat eating isn't covered?! And my boss is a Christian Scientist, so my coverage won't include ... doctors?

Caption: I'm tired of people blaming republicans for the government shutdown. It's both sides' fault. I mean, libs refused to negotiate Obamacare. They insisted it was a done deal. Thank God For Culture Clash. SINCE WHEN has something been "done" just because it was passed by both houses of congress, signed into law by the president, and upheld by the Supreme Court? Since 1787. You're not supposed to answer hypothetical questions.

Caption: An ugly decision. The Iowa Supreme Court has reaffirmed its ruling that a male boss can fire a female employee for being too attractive. It's not about gender. It's about saving this man's marriage! Seven crusty dudes. Ladies of Iowa! Worried that you'll be fired for being a looker? You need this! Iowa Worker Protection Kit. Do you have the Jenkins Files? Right here, sir! If you are fired, call the hotline. Union for the unemployably hot. Oh, he saw you without the disguise? I'm sorry. Let me put you on babe stamps. 1-800-Too-Foxy. Unfortunately, overturning the decision will be an uphill battle. As all of us have been distracted by picturing the plaintiff's lawyer naked, we'll have to declare a mistrial.

Caption: What's wrong, Lemont? I wish the Supreme Court would make up it's mind. Over the course of 24 hours, there were a few 5-4 decisions. One made it harder for minorities to vote … … But others made it possible for gay couples in California to marry, and for gay married couples to receive federal benefits. Now I don't know whether they're ENLIGHTENED by a margin of 5-4, or BUTTHEADED by a margin of 5-4.

Caption: I'm glad the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act. Wheeze wheeze. Stealing Democracy. Since the Voting Rights Act passed in 1965, things have gotten so much better. Wheeze. Nobody stops blacks from voting, and when they try the courts stop them. Wheeze wheeze. We don't need it any more than I need that inhaler that completely cured my asthma. Wheeze.

Caption: In other news, the Supreme Court has struck down the Defense of Marriage Act. DOMA prevented gay married couples from receiving the same federal benefits as straight couples. The court ruled 5-4 that writing inequality into the federal code was unconstitutional. In unrelated news, the court ruled t5-4 that people need to stop whining about all the 5-4 decisions.
