Caption: Over the last decade we've chronicled modern life through the joys and tribulations of the Rudy Park gang. They've lent us a window into the key issues of the day, from politics to nutrition to the way our whole world is shaped by HBO's programming choices. But we've been remiss. Somehow, in all this time, we've never had a storyline involving a secret scandalous videotape of a major character's illicit past. This week, we humbly make amends. We recommend that the more squeamish among you spend this week instead reading US magazine, or watching C-Span or whatever else your weak-kneed sensibilities require. Stay tuned ...

Caption: Ask Sadie. Dear Sadie, Why are you a Yankees fan? Purple pinstripes are WAY better than blue ones. Go Rockies! See ya in the series this year! -Love, prettyinpurple. *(Actual reader letter) Ask Sadie at rudy@rudypark.com. Why do I like the Yankees, Rudy? Dunno. Why do I like Cuban cigars, 100-year-old port, John Wayne, Albert Einstein rubbing my feet while I bathe in salt from THE DEAD SEA?! Um ... Why must I be subjected to letters like this?!?! I can't get past the Einstein thing ... (This cartoon was originally published on 2014-07-08)

Caption: This Facebook thing is @#$% nuts! In my day, people kept their lives private. You didn't share you personal tastes, age, buying habits and relationship status. Which is? Huh? What is your relationship statue, pookums? Not my point. Change of subject. Too late. Can't you at least share our status with me?

Caption: Boss, I got your memo. Why can't I talk about the ancient pyramids with the patrons? You misread that, minion. I want you to talk about the pyramids even more. Throw in the Sphinx, while you're at it. I've noticed a 4.35 spike in sales of cold drinks every time you bring up desert-based topics. You're taking all the fun out of human interaction. From now on, you're to carry around a small cactus at all times.

Caption: Ask Sadie Advice Hour, what's your problem?! NASA. I just read an article about how NASA canceled yet another moon mission. What are they hiding??? Excellent question. As you all know, I was an astronaut on the top-secret final Apollo mission back in 1973. Did you realize Apollo fro Battlestar Galactica was played by the lovely, departed Richard Hatch? I once worked soldering hatches on nuclear submarines. Wait ... are you trying to chance the subject? Submarine sandwiches, contrary to popular misconception, are not actually meant to be eaten under water. Coverup!!!

Caption: I’d like to declare my interest. In what? Commitment. Two kids and a dog. Commitment to kids and a dog? And to going for long walks on the beach, to gazing up at the stars, to growing old together … What? I thought you were talking about two kids. That sounds like eight. And why would only tow grow old together? What about the other six? Are you saying they'll grow old at different rates? ... Or are you saying the other six will meet some untimely fate and not grow old at all? Then she asked if I was implying the dog ate the other six. I've never seen someone so expertly change the subject before.

Caption: Seriously, boss? I'm no longer allowed to talk about astronomy at work? Why? It's just bad for business. What if I want to get a huge merger approved so I could finally achieve my lifelong dream of having a monopoly of my very own? The government's not exactly science-friendly these days. I don't want them throwing up roadblocks just because my minion aid something that pressed their buttons. Did you know Venus is a dead world because of global warming? Stop that.

Caption: Great news! Scientists have cured many, many diseases! They've used new discoveries and innovative techniques to cure inherited liver disease … to cure cardiac disease caused by a formerly fatal genetic disorder … to cure all forms of cancer with no side effects ... and to totally reverse the aging process ... in mice. Oh COME ON!!! When will all this be applicable to humans, Chuck? We asked a scientist, but he just glanced at a tiny hole in the wall and said "Shhh ... there are ears everywhere."

Caption: I'd like my money back. The celery smoothie didn't make me lose weight at all. I've been drinking three a day for two weeks, yet I've gained 17 pounds. Did you add any sugar or honey or anything to it? Don't try to change the subject. No refunds.

Caption: What's the best way to break up with someone without hurting their feelings, Uncle Mort? Turn every comment political. For instance, if she says "want to cuddle?" you say … "I guess so. It's better than turning up the thermostat and contributing to the burning of fossil fuels." In my experience, they'll be too busy leaving to have hurt feelings. Let me write this down ...

Caption: I've figured out why Vladimir Putin is so belligerent toward us. It's his last name. In the west, it's been the subject of jokes for decades. A thing like that would make anyone cranky and hostile, and eager to punish anyone who doesn't take them seriously. Good point. I remember in grade school, there was a kid named "Ima Stinkbottom." She became an IRS auditor. I rest my case.

Caption: You're late, Rudy. That's setting a bad example for the other employees. What other employees? Don't change the subject. You need to be a better role model. To that end, I've enrolled you in the best manager-training course in the nation. It'll only cost you $40 an hour. The teacher wouldn't happen to be you, would it? Don't change the subject.
