Caption: You heard earth's just entered its sixth great extinction event? Really? Vertebrate species are dying at a rate not seen since the dinosaurs dies off. This time it's thanks to us. But the good thing is, scientists think humans will die off pretty early in this mass extinction. How's that a good thing? We won't be around to hear the other animals say "I told you so."

Caption: Great news! Scientists have cured many, many diseases! They've used new discoveries and innovative techniques to cure inherited liver disease … to cure cardiac disease caused by a formerly fatal genetic disorder … to cure all forms of cancer with no side effects ... and to totally reverse the aging process ... in mice. Oh COME ON!!! When will all this be applicable to humans, Chuck? We asked a scientist, but he just glanced at a tiny hole in the wall and said "Shhh ... there are ears everywhere."

Caption: I just edited your Wikipedia entry. I still neither know nor care what that means. Tap tap tap tap tap. It means you're no longer known as "the last surviving Neanderthal on earth." Scientists now think Neanderthals were kinder and smarter than homo sapiens. Which made them highly desirable as mates, so homo sapiens basically interbred with them until they were gone. You're now classified as a fossilized armadillopithecine, which was so undesirable that nobody wanted to interbreed with it. And yet I've still had more dates than you.

Caption: I've realized something: It's likely that there's only one way for mankind to reach the stars in our lifetimes. Do tell. Scientists believe we'll be able to upload our minds in just 30 years. That means NASA could upload everyone's mind to a robot, and launch it into space. We wouldn't need life support. We wouldn't be affected by radiation or anything. We could even sleep for the 100 years or so it took to get to the nearest star. Then that robot could build more robots and download our minds to them. But we wouldn't have private parts. Mankind isn't mankind if it doesn't have privates. I think that's one for the philosophers.

Caption: Scientists discovered an immense hole in Siberia. Nobody knows what caused it. Some think global warming melted a huge, gas-filled hill made of ice so fast that is exploded. Let's let them go on thinking that, little buddy. House of Java.net Cybercafe. By the way, if you ever go out to the middle of nowhere to brew your own black market cologne, make sure you don't brew it on a hill made of ice. That does not constitute an admission of anything.

Caption: What can I get you? I'll have a mocha, a scone, and an explanation of Beyonce's "Formation" video. Ok. Would you like that for here or to go? Here would be good. Ok. Last month, Beyonce released a music video that expressed pride in her black heritage. Pride in black culture, pride in black physical features, pride even in the Black Panther movement. The reason this is ok is, for centuries, mainstream culture has been telling black people to be ashamed of all that. They've been told to straighten their hair, talk differently, and even lighten their skin if they want to look "professional." When the world tells you to be ashamed of who you are, it's ok to say "No, I'm proud of it." That'll be $14.95. Can I also get a side of explaining why it's important that scientists finally discovered gravity waves?

Caption: When you think about it, you have to be a complete idiot NOT to believe aliens crashed at Roswell in 1947. It's clear we reverse-engineered their tech. Before 1947: Primitive cars, planes and radio. After 1947: Spaceships, quantum computing, internet. Let me try ... Before 1947: No bikinis. After 1947: Bikinis. No, wait ... the bikini was 1946. That throws this whole theory into question. We really should have our own science show.

Caption: A-HA! What? What do you mean "a-ha"? You know how you told me there's a difference between your pumpkin-ginseng latte and your ginseng-pumpkin latte? Well, I gave samples of each to my cousin who's a scientist in the tastebud studies department at Candorville University. He put them through the most rigorous tests known to man, and guess what the results showed? This cafe officially has no knowledge of any abnormal amounts of fluoride, heavy metals, disinfections byproducts, pharmaceutical drugs, rodent waste, or any other contaminants in our food or drink. I was going to say the tests found they're the same drink. This cafe has specifically never even heard of chromium, uranium or perfluorooctanoic sulfonate.

Caption: I just edited your Wikipedia entry. Tap tap tap tap tap. Big whoop. What a coincidence, that's what scientists have classified you as: Bigwhoop … the much grumpier, much louder, and much much older second cousin of Bigfoot. YOU LOUSY SON OF A … Wait … thank you. That's very flattering.

Caption: Ask Sadie™ Dear Sadie, What do you think about what's going on with Planned Parenthood: How they were caught on tape talking about money they get for selling fetal tissue? Please tell me you're as outraged about it as I am.* - Bernard from Brea. *Actual reader question. I am. I'm especially outraged that the scientists are using the tissue to research treatments for horrible diseases. In my day, if you got a horrible disease, you died. And you were glad to do it. Caption: This just in: People can get used to anything. Scientists at Tonga Technical Online University have discovered that 81% of Americans become accustomed to horrendous news after being repetitively exposed to it for more than six weeks. Participants in the study were fed with regular updates on ISIS, Ukraine, missing airliners, the measles outbreaks, Bill Cosby and Brian Williams. 100% of participants were initially shocked. By week two, 95% had progressed to being appalled. By week six, a whopping 87% were either bored or had completely forgotten about the story that had outraged them just weeks earlier. Fix your attention span, America! By week 7, 0.01% had either moved to Syria, become pilots, refused to vaccinate their kids, started eating Jell-O pudding pops, or mistakenly "remembered" they were at Gettysburg.
