Caption: "Comedy isn't Funny." Humor is very important. Humor is funny because it shows us a new perspective. While Freud dismissed humor as displaced hostility, humor analysts now understand humor's role in education, health, and business. Humor stimulates effective problem-solving, and research shows that workplace humor increases productivity! Yes, we should all learn the lessons of humor. Splat! Very funny. A message from the American Humor Council.

Caption: "Follow Your Blues." I'm working hard in school to ensure a successful future! I'm slacking off to draw cartoons. I'm attending a respected four-year university! I'm dropping out to draw cartoons. I'm working at a job I hate at a large, faceless corporation because it's secure! I'm drawing cartoons! I got fired and there are no more jobs. I'm still drawing cartoons! I've basically wasted my entire life doing things I didn't enjoy in pursuit of a "future" that was a lie! I'm drawing cartoons, which is exactly what I've always wanted to do! Blam! Moral: Stay in school and work with the system!

Caption: Almost all I need to know I learned in kindergarten. Kids are mean. Grown-ups lie. You're not supposed to run around naked in front of your older brother's friends. Life is hard. The teacher doesn't really care if you're asleep during nap time as long as you lie down and shut up for 15 minutes. If you're different, someone will try to beat you up. Time speeds up as you get older. Nothing makes any sense. Grown-up women who aren't fat think that they are. You aren't really a princess left here by accident. If you wish for something really, really hard, it still won't happen. Failure to obey leads to punishment. Everyone is supposed to celebrate Christmas, even if they're not Christian. School sucks. Life isn't fair. So why'd I wait until my sophomore year in college to drop out? by Nina Paley.

Caption: Subletter-of-the-Month Wednesday, April 18th, around 6:30am… ZZZ Shake Shake Hey Shoshanna, did you feel that? Wasn't that an earthquake? Huh? No, that was just the workers next door. Go back to sleep. Her senior thesis (due tomorrow). Subletter-of-the-month! Tap tap tap. What workers next door? It's 6:30 in the morning! Shake Rattle Shake Hey Shoshanna, I felt it again. Wasn't THAT an earthquake? Of course not. My computer's still on. If it had been a quake the power would be off. Tap tap tap tap. Oh. Okay. Just relax. Can't you see I'm busy? Rumble Rumble Shake Shake 8 quakes later... Hey Shoshanna, there's a huge tidal wave headed straight for Santa Cruz. Shut up. I still have time to print out this disc.

Caption: Hippies. Nina always had this beautiful image of what hippies were like…Organic food! Peace and love! Natural fiber clothing! Probably because she grew up in the 70s and 80s, when all the 60s hippies went underground and became romantic legends...Okay, class! Now we're going to play tackle football! A hippie wouldn't stand for this torture! Peace and love! I protest violent activities in P.E.! So when Nina moved to Santa Cruz, she expected there'd be all these hippies to match her romantic images. But it was not to be. Poof. Romantic ideals. There were grouchy hippies...Everyone's stupid. Nobody knows anything. Food poisons the body...And trendy hippies...Tie-Dye boutique. Hey Starbeam! Dig the energy of this t-shirt! Like it is so cosmic...And college-age deadhead neo-hippies. Burgers and fries!! Peace and love! Hash and beer! So it goes. What does "hippie" really mean, anyway?
