1982. Last night I looked across the alley and saw your light on, but you weren't answering your tin can. I didn't know you called me. Maybe the string wasn't tight enough to receive the call. But I was busy anyway. I was writing to my pen pal. Chuck's been having trouble working up the courage to talk to some little red-haired girl. He was even too timid to try my suggested "pull her hair" ice-breaker. That's my best move. I don't know why you men think us women like that. Try my can again tonight, I'll try to get better reception.

Hey Phil, what's the Word o' the Day? Todays word is "jacquerie." When you ask the salesman … where the athletic supporters are. Killin' it! Hope. Success is not final. Failure is not fatal. It's the courage to continue that counts. Winston Churchill.

… and so I toast Toni Daytona, a woman who motivated my once-worthless brother to become - and I can't believe I'm saying this - a pretty great guy. I toast Toni because she just came here from a situation that required extreme courage. She also just came here from fighting a wildfire.

Possible Republican Commanders-in-Chief. I served my country! I stayed home a made money. Somebody had to do it. It was a great sacrifice. All that money clogging up my bank account … Heh-heh, well-well, I mean and etc, what my friend Donald, and he is my friend, even if he is slightly insane, means is well-well, heh-heh, and etc, and what about John McCain, I mean my friend John McCain, that b*stard, a great war hero thing, and let me repeat heh-heh, well-well and etc ... Please shut up ... the enemy might hear you. |

You're on "Ask Sadie." What's your problem?! I met a lady a while back. We're both stuck in marriages we don't want to be in. We'd rather be together but we don't have the courage to end things. What do you mean "courage"? Ending things isn't "courageous," it's cowardly. Courage means not running from misery, but embracing it, becoming its master, and delivering it upon all those around you with vengeance. |

I keep reading all these stories about virtual reality nookie. It just sounds horrible. It takes all the best parts of it: Seeing someone for the first time … blushing at the thought of holding her hand … Working up the courage to approach her … seeing her pretend to answer her phone and talk so you won't say hello ... Maybe the technology would be good for some people ... taking five years to work up the courage to approach someone new ... |

Akron, OH, you're on Ask Sadie. What's your problem?! I'm thinking of not signing up for health insurance this year. Good idea. In my day, there was no such thing as health insurance. If you got sick, you paid for it with either money or chickens. That's if you were a lily-livered coward who just had to see a doctor. When great great grandmother Cohen had her sixth heart attack, she just applied a poultice made of chestnut leaves and flour and kept plowing. |

Open mic night presents Meleogris Gobbler. 'Tis the story of a woeful refugee … whose plight has been forgotten. An admirable, amiable sort is he … but boy is he downtrodden. With courage of the kind you rarely see, he defended his land. When Redcoats invaded over land and sea, he's peck their knees and hands. And how did America repay this debt owed its forest bird? Did you put our noble visage on the national seal as we would have preferred? No. You ate us. Just like the British did. I really think that it's the least you can do to redeem your traitorous heart ... if you grant all my brethren refugee status, before these holidays start. Anyone have any gravy? |

It gave you a chance to prove your grit! Nothing like a touch of burning pain, wheezing, and crackling in the chest to separate the women from the girls. What kind of doctor are you, again? |
