Caption: What're you doing here, Mort? What do you mean? Shouldn't you be in DC right now? The new Congress was sworn in yesterday. I don't follow. You're missing … wait … you do know you won your election, right? I what my what? You mean that actually happened? It wasn't an Imodium-induced hallucination? The Blue Wave Congress is a motley crew.

Caption: How many people bought your new book, bruh? The Worlds Where They Never Stopped Minorities From Voting? So far it's doing well. I painstakingly went through every single election since ex-slaves won the right to vote … and matched polls and private journals with every recorded instance of voter suppression and every dirty trick from the moment reconstruction ended until today ... Several presidential races, dozens of Senate races, and hundreds of Congressional races would've turned out differently. Our nation's history would've been totally different if minorities were never robbed of their right to vote. It took me eighteen years of research and hard work to piece together alternate histories caused by each changed election outcome. Is there a alternate history where you done told me how many people bought your depressing book? It's doing well.

Caption: What'd you mean when you called it the Republican Supreme Court? They're not all Republicans. Ever since the Republicans voted as a bloc in 2000 to end the recount and make Bush president … and with all the 5 to 4 votes … it's become increasingly clear that the court is a political body, just like Congress. There's no point in pretending it's still some unbiased arbiter of justice. Nothing's legitimate anymore. This is just like the last days of Rome.

Caption: I hear your campaign's going very well, Mort. My what is going what now? … For Congress. You campaign for Congress. You were running neck-and-neck for a while with the incumbent, Congressman Snidely. But now you're up by three. Oh. Must be that Blue Wave they keep talking about. Or maybe it's that people find my progressive values to be very attractive. Yeah. That, and they finally buried him, so the mourning period is over. I'm looking forward to the debate.

Caption: Hello congressional candidate, your robocall has reached the home of a registered voter. I can't come to the phone right now because I'm out searching for the nonexistent job your party promised you'd deliver last time you ran for office. I'm Lemont Brown. And I approved this message.

Caption: In other news, there seems to be a blue wave coming, as Democrats continue to win surprising victories in heavily Republican districts. Just across the bridge in Canardville, for instance, Republican Congressman Snidely Perfidious has held his seat for 40 years. He's not running 10 points behind a 90-year-old veteran-turned-peace-activist who advocates Medicare for all, free college, and mandatory veganism. Cool. Maybe I'll be able to see a doctor someday. I don't know, bruh ... The Congress we got is pretty bad. But so is broccoli.

Caption: I had a dream. I dreamt that in 2020, "The Rock" runs for president as an independent. The Republicans nominate Trump again. Democrats are so overconfident that they nominate the corpse of Woodrow Wilson. And while we're all distracted, Congress quietly eliminates elections altogether and they appoint an immortal A.I. as the chairman and CEO of the American Corporate Empire, LLC. I think I like Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech better. I'd tell you the rest, but you might as well just watch "The Matrix."

Caption: The Koch Brothers are filthy rich billionaires. They plan on spending $1 billion on the upcoming elections. I can't even afford to buy a new car, let alone a new Congress. It all makes me feel so hopeless. But then I think back to the Middle Ages. Sure there was Feudalism. But there was also jousting, and damsels, and knights. So Feudalism's not all bad. Plus, modern Feudalism is almost 92% guaranteed to not include the plague. PhD. Well, there's that.

Caption: This just in: According to scientists, it is not yet 2016. Hold on … Yes, ok … Sources are telling us that if this turns out to be true, it could have profound implications. Theoretically, it would mean that our leaders could spend this year actually accomplishing things. Wait, I'm being told ... Ok, sources claim it would also mean politicians don't have to demonize people on the other side of the aisle yet. Congress is already weighing in on this stunning development. They've issued a joint statement saying "We're not scientists, so we don't know one way or another if this crazy 'theory' is true." We at the nightly news should stress that the theory is so far unconfirmed. And frankly we're not sure we buy it either.

Caption: I'm not looking forward to the next President or the next Congress. Every single year, as far back as I can remember, everyone's agreed that politics have never been more polarized. Doesn’t it feel like our republic is circling the drain? Sooner or later, one of these elections is going to known as "The Great Flush."

Caption: So all together we spent $6 billion on a two-year-long election … Dr. Noodle. Six billion spent on TV ads … Internet ads … Radio ads … And to end up with a Democratic president and divided Congress. You're frustrated that after all that, nothing's changed. I'm frustrated I didn't sell ad space on my kid's backpack. PhD. Fascinating.

Caption: So, Ebenezer, tell me about these visions you're having. Had to lay off ten people 'cause we couldn't afford to pay their health benefits. Congress does nothing about the health insurance problem. Every time I think about voting them out … Bad people are tryin' to kill you and your family. It happened again, Doc! I picture the President every time I even think about voting democratic ... They wanna kill ya dead! They wanna kill you wife! Whey wanna kill yer puppy dog! They wanna murder yer hamster till it's dead! It has nothing to do with me being afraid of a new congress that might actually hold me accountable for my actions, by the way. Oh, doctor, what's wrong with me? BOO!

Caption: Lemont interviews the Democratic National Committee for his blog. Mr. Dean, Polls show democrats have a good chance of retaking both houses of congress. For the first time in years, voters seem to think democrats would do a better job overall. So I guess my question is ... How are you going to blow this election? Oh, we have several options.
