Caption: I'm stocking up on c canned foods, survival gear and oxygen tanks. Why? Elon Musk. What? He's a billionaire with government connections. Um … ok … and? Don't you see, Susan? He's in a position to know stuff we don't know. He just built an electric truck that's bulletproof, can go off-road, and with the optional solar panels, could keep running even in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Proves nothing. What about the giant space arks he's building? Maybe he's just bored.

Caption: I read your article about how 13,000 or so years ago, an apocalyptic catastrophe cause an ice age that lasted 1,000 years. The Younger Dryas cold period. And 1,000 years later, that ice age suddenly ended, maybe in a single day, causing a global flood. It would explain the sudden disappearance of a lot of megalithic civilizations ... the end of Atlantis ... all the ancient flood myths ... we may have come close to extinction. I'm just saying, there've been worse years. 2018 wasn't that bad, Lemon.

Caption: The end of all people is before Me; for the earth is filled with violence and with reality TV stars running for president … and behold, I am about to destroy them with the earth … Or maybe with an asteroid this time. Or a comet. Similar apocalyptic destruction, but it's got a long, sparkly tail which is quite lovely. Whatever, bruh. Anyway, make thee an ark with a habitat module and a propulsion system ...

Caption: You know why I'm optimistic about the future, Susan? The movies. When I was a kid, everyone thought "Mad Max" and "Red Dawn" were possible futures. That's because all were certain that, sooner or later, we and the Russians would nuke each other, and only mutants, robots and guys wearing leather would survive. We don't see post-apocalyptic movies as documentaries anymore. You don't think that's just 'cause we're grown? Pessimist.

Caption: Don’t you hear the drums, Tyrone? Bappada-boom. Boom. Bappada-boom. Boom. … It's like the sound of The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, trotting steadily toward us. "Trotting"? Really, Rosencrantz, fear-mongering is all about word choice. "Scampering"? Still not scared. "Scooting"? (Published originally on March 27, 2012.)

Caption: Why have you come to Therapy, Mr. Lapew? "Mr. Lapierre." Wayne Lapierre, of the NRA. Dr. Noodle. I see. And what brings you to therapy? I'm afraid I may be paranoid, doctor. Last month I said on TV that the reason we need more guns is because Americans will SURELY find ourselves in a post-apocalyptic "hellish world ... " ... Filled with hurricanes, tornadoes, gangs and criminals, euro-style debt riots, and looters who'd murder you over a box of Pampers. I can see why you think you may be paranoid. So you agree. The thought that nobody's taking me seriously is all in my head. What? What?

Caption: What do you mean you have nothing for me? You majored in liberal arts … Jobville Employment Agency. … Which doesn't qualify you for the jobs that are still out there. You should've thought ahead, like I did. Identified growth industries and majored in one of them. What did you major in? Unemployment counseling. With a minor in post-apocalyptic foraging.

Caption: No, Lemont, I don't hide my money in shady offshore bank accounts to evade taxes. Oh. That's good to hear be-- I do it to evade the inevitable collapse of the American economy and the ensuing post-apocalyptic struggle for survival. But …. if our economy collapses, the whole world's economy collapses. Now that's just paranoid.
