Background about Karl Wimer

Karl Wimer was for ten years the editorial cartoonist at the Denver Business Journal and several years at the Investment Professional. His work is regularly published in books, magazines and online across the country and internationally.

For several years, Wimer earned major editorial cartoons awards. He has won first prizes for the region with the Society of Professional Journalists and the Colorado Press Association, and is featured regularly in the Best Cartoons of the Year book. Wimer has also been a third place winner in the National Party Toons contest and has had cartoons selected for the highly-regarded Cartoons in the Classroom scholastic program.

Prior to joining the Denver Business Journal, Wimer had cartooned for the Yale Daily and Yale Herald while in college, then during the early 90's in Prague, he cartooned for the largest circulation English language newspaper in Central Europe, the Central European Business Weekly. While at business school at Kellogg, Wimer was the cartoonist for the school’s paper, The Merger.

Wimer is also a successful marketing executive working in the Denver market and with national clients. His background and focus on business, economics, and finance provide a grasp of the issues that sets apart his work from many of his peers when it comes to these issues.

Wimer's early years were spent first at Yale, where he did his best impression of a scholar and history major, athlete (lacrosse and football), and partygoer. He then spent more than four years in Europe, involved in everything from coaching wee Brits on the finer points of lacrosse and high-fives to earning a graduate degree at the London School of Economics to helping rebuild the Czech economy after the fall of communism as a consultant and venture capitalist. He returned stateside to chase his goal of being an over-educated twenty-something, and found success by earning an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern. During those years, Wimer also worked in Chile and Thailand, ostensibly as a marketer. He continued to build his marketing career at Pepsico/Pizza Hut, then left the restaurant world to join the great dotcom gold rush, burning much midnight oil as VP of Marketing for a handful of start-ups.

Wimer is regularly commissioned by businesses to develop cartoons and illustrations for marketing and promotional efforts. He is regularly sought by corporations for brand development work as a strategist, but also as a logo and new product designer, as well as for website design and development. Much of this can be viewed at kfwimer.com .
